Preparing For Your Session

I'm so excited to document this special time in your lives. My goal is to photograph your family in an authentic, lifestyle-like approach. So yes, we will take posed photos where everyone is looking at the camera, but I want everyone to have fun so I can capture the small moments. Enjoy the time together. Be silly, jump around, dance! These are the moments that you are going to treasure when you look back on these photos.

Outfits

Choose your outfits early & make sure everyone will be comfortable.

Coordinate your outfits by picking a color scheme rather than matching outfits.

Choose simple, classic clothing and limit patterns. As a general rule, for every three people only one should be in a pattern.

Think about your accessories: hats, scarves, jackets, etc.

If you have young children, do not dress them until you arrive and remember a backup outfit.

Moms: pick your outfit first!I want you to choose an outfit that makes you feel confident and beautiful instead of

trying to fit yourself in at the end. So choose the color and style you want to wear and build from there.

For color combo inspiration, I always turn to Pinterest. If you need help coordinating outfits or choosing colors let me help!

Props

I will always have a blanket available for you to use during outdoor sessions. I also have a kids wooden chair that is available upon request (only for children who can sit up on their own). If there are other items you would like to use during our session, please ask me ahead of time if I have them or feel free to bring them yourself.

Other Tips

Relax. You may be stressed about getting "the perfect photo", but I promise we will get some great shots. You set the tone for your family, so let's have a fun, relaxed, stress-free session and your kids will feel that vibe too.

Prep your kids ahead of time. In the days leading up to or even just the night before your session, let them know that you'll be taking family photos soon. Practice smiling, posing and being silly.

Bring snacks. Make sure to choose snacks that aren't too messy and use them only when absolutely needed.

For in-home sessions, choose a spot that has a lot of light coming in and make sure it is clutter free. Some common locations for photos are in the primary bedroom, the living room and the nursery (for newborn sessions).

After your session

After our session, your gallery will be ready within three weeks and will include a print release.
